What is Web Accessibility?
Web accessibility means that everyone, including the elderly and people with disabilities, can use the information and functions provided on websites without any problems. (From the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Everyone's Public Site Operational Guidelines (2024 Edition)") The Japanese Industrial Standard JIS X 8341-3:2016 (hereinafter referred to as JIS) for web accessibility was published in 2016, and the revised Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities in April 2024 has made it mandatory for not only government agencies but also private businesses to "provide reasonable accommodation," and efforts are being required to make websites compliant with the JIS.
